Next stop the president’s desk.
WASHINGTON D.C. – The Senate this morning approved the Fiscal Year 2006 Agriculture Appropriations Conference Report, by a vote of 81-18, which includes over $50 million for Utah agriculture projects obtained by Senator Bob Bennett.
Of the $50.5 million Bennett requested, $17.3 million will support Utah State University’s (USU) renowned agriculture research programs.
“As we conclude action on the agriculture bill, I’m particularly pleased with the funding we were able to procure for Utah projects, particularly those at Utah State University, a preeminent agriculture institution,” said Bennett, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture. "Each dollar spent on research helps America’s agriculture industry become more efficient and productive. It’s an important investment with a sizable return."

$50 Million to Utah? Aren't there starving children in India who would be better having that money? Or what about Ashley Simpson? I'd rather have the money buy her more voice lessons than have it go to Utah. What a waste of money
i can understand how it would seem this money is a waste, although this is a small part of a $100.2 billion agriculture appropriations bill. the $50 million set aside for utah will fund research and education efforts that address urban sprawl and a limited water supply. the money will be used to look into ways to increase the availability of irrigation water, air quality research, and a number of other vital programs that will help utah, which is largely agricultural. as far as food to india, they continue to be one of the largest recipients in the world of u.s. development assistance and food aid. india will receive an estimated $49 million in food aid. so yes, there are starving children in many other countries, but they will receive money not from the ag. bill, but from a separate appropriations bill. and no money in the world will fix her voice.
